Obituary for Barbara Wilhelm
Barbara E. Wilhelm, 87, of Coldwater, passed away on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater with Pastor David Pierce from the First Baptist Church officiating. Arrangements are being cared for by Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater.
Barbara was born October 22, 1926 in Wayne Co., MI to William & Dorothy (Keith) Keith. She graduated from Allen High School in 1943, coming to Coldwater in 1949. Barbara married Keith Wilhelm on January 1, 1951 in Coldwater, he preceded her in death on April 8, 1996.
Mrs. Wilhelm had moved, with her husband, to Kentucky and worked for 2 years at Bell Telephone Co. before coming back to Coldwater. She then served as undersheriff for the Branch County Sheriff's Dept. for 18 years. After leaving law enforcement, Barb and her husband Keith, owned and operated the former Wilhelm's Wharf on Coldwater Lake from 1977 until their retirement in 1998.
Barbara was a member of the Coldwater Business and Professional Women Assoc., Batavia Grange, Coldwater Elks, the Moose Auxiliary and American Legion both in Fremont, IN and the Sheriff Women's Organization. Barb had also served on the Board of the American Cancer Society.
Barb is survived by her daughters Kimberly Wilhelm of Coldwater, Kaye (Jamie) Kolb of Montgomery, her sister Irene Brayton of Coldwater, her grandchildren Abigail (Michael Martens) Colyer, Anna Colyer, Matthew Brown, Kyle Kolb & Gaven Kolb. In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her brother William Keith and her sister Clara Showalter
