William: William Norman Geiger, 94, of Coldwater passed away on Friday (3/21/2014) at home. Born November 24, 1919, in Chicago, Illinois, he was the son of William Charles and Morrestella (Katelman) Geiger and served as a medic in the U. S. Army during WWII. He worked briefly as a printer for Life magazine and then became a farmer, where the love of his life was crop farming and milking cows until his retirement at age 80. He served as an officer on the ASC Board for many years, was an avid pilot and member of the Branch County Flying Club and active with the portico project at Branch County Memorial Airport. He also was a former member of the Masonic Lodge and was the Grand Marshall of the 2012 Coldwater Halloween Parade. He enjoyed salmon fishing in Alaska, bowling on the Coldwater Recreational League, woodworking and winemaking and had traveled extensively in and out of the country with his wife.
On July 10, 1964, he married Marjorie (VanVorst) Fenner and she preceded him in death on April 30, 2011. Survivors include 2 daughters, Judy Speer of Battle Creek and Sharon Runyan of Coldwater; 1 son, Robert (Rebecca) Fenner of Brighton, Colorado; 1 sister, Ruth Weise of Chicago; 8 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 10 great-great-grandchildren; 1 niece, Karen (Randy) King of Chicago; 1 nephew, James (Donna) Weise of Chicago; 6 great nieces and nephews; and his constant and faithful companions, dog "Duke" and "Cat.". In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by 1 sister, Katherine Geiger and 2 sons-in-law, Ronald Speer of Battle Creek and Warren Runyan of Reading.
Interment will be in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy.
Marjorie: Marjorie Marie Geiger, 89, of Coldwater, passed away Saturday (4/30/2011) at Drew's Place of Coldwater. She was born March 16, 1922 in Colon, MI to Clyde and Marie (Hacker) VanVorst and graduated from Colon High School in 1940. Marjorie retired in 1986 from the Branch County Agricultural State Conservation Stabilization. She also volunteered her time as a Pink Lady at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
Marjorie was an avid team bowler at Coldwater Recreation Bowling, a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Coldwater, and she loved travelling. She was proud to make a prize-winning quilt for the Branch County Fair and will be remembered for her talent as a wonderful pie baker. Marjorie received a pin for generously donating 5 gallons of blood at local blood banks.
Survivors include her husband, William Geiger, whom she married July 10, 1964; 2 daughters, Judy Speer, Battle Creek and Sharon (Warren) Runyan of Reading; 1 son, Robert (Rebecca) Fenner, Brighton CO; 1 sister, Phyllis Brown, Grand Rapids; 1 sister-in-law, Ruth Weise, Chicago; 1 brother, Clyde "Bud" VanVorst, Colon; 8 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, 10 great-great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews
Her parents, 2 brothers, Leslie & Russell VanVorst, and sister-in-law, Katherine Geiger preceded her in death.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 7, 2011 at 11:00 AM, at the Eagle Funeral Home-George White Chapel in Quincy, with Pastor Kurt Adams officiating. Interment will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Quincy. Visitation is scheduled Friday, May 6, 2011 from 4-8 PM at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to St. Paul Lutheran Church or Lifespan Hospice.
