Charles Wesley Sussex, 81, of Coldwater passed away on Friday, March 07, 2014 at Bronson Battle Creek.
Charles was born October 9, 1932 in Onstead, MI to Alexander and Ivol (Post) Sussex. After graduating high school, Charles met the love of his life Shirley Woods and they married on February 23, 1952. Charles continued his education, earning a Master's from Michigan State University. He began a long and rewarding career teaching Special Education at Coldwater High School, where he retired in 1992.
Charles was a loving family man who was very active with church, where he taught Sunday School. He was a member of Gideon's Society and lived his life as a man of faith. Charles had many hobbies including fishing, playing scrabble with his siblings, and was an avid gardener. He and Shirley enjoyed traveling to Florida during the winter for many years.
Charles is survived by his wife Shirley Sussex of Coldwater; son Dr. Michael (Lisa) Sussex of Three Rivers; daughters Sandra McBride of Coldwater, Tami Anthony of Coldwater; brothers Alex(Charlene) Sussex of Coldwater, Theodore Sussex of Fife Lake; sisters Gladys (Frank) Parkinson of Quincy, Shirley Flowers of Osseo, Sally Brumbaugh of Coldwater; grand-children Eric (Jessica) Sussex, Matthew Sussex, Amanda Sussex, Alex Hobday, Jennifer (Ben) McDaniel, Ryan McBride, and Brent McBride; 6 great grand-children. He was preceded in death by his parents; son Charles Sussex; and brother Carl Sussex.

Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Obituary for Shirley Sussex

Shirley Ann Sussex, 83 of Coldwater passed away on Monday, December 22, 2014 at Masonville House.

A funeral service will take place on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 10:30 AM at Coldwater Free Methodist Church, with Rev. Elden Lee officiating. Interment will follow the service at Oak Grove Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Friday, December 26, 2014 at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater from 5:00 – 8:00 PM.

Shirley was born May 13, 1931 to George and Margaret (Clark) Woods in Coldwater. After graduation from Hillsdale High School in 1949, she continued her education at Nazarene & Spring Arbor Colleges studying music. On February 23, 1952, she married the love of her life Charles Sussex at the United Methodist Church in Hillsdale. He preceded her in death on March 7, 2014.

Shirley was a woman of faith and has been a member of the Free Methodist Church in Coldwater since 1970, where she also sang in the choir. Along with singing, she enjoyed playing the violin and accordion. Shirley liked playing all types of card games and was an avid Detroit Tigers fan. She will be remembered as a loving mother and grandmother who was a great cook and well-liked by many.

Shirley is survived by her son Dr. Michael (Lisa) Sussex of Three Rivers; daughters Sandra McBride of Coldwater, Tami Anthony of Coldwater; sister Dorothy Waterman of Antelope, CA; grand-children Eric (Jessica) Sussex, Matthew Sussex, Amanda Sussex, Alex Hobday, Jennifer (Ben) McDaniel, Ryan McBride, and Brent McBride; 6 great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Charles Sussex; and her sister Glema Lewis.

Memorials may be directed to the Branch County Food Pantry or the Naomi Davis Shelterhouse.
