Served in the Revolutionary War and was with John Paul Jones on the Bon Homme Richard when the first Stars and Stripes were flown,thus establishing the United States Navy.He came to Girard Michigan and one of his many land purchases was a tract of 320 acres on West Girard Praire,the papers being signed by President Andrew Jackson in 1831.
