DEATH NOTICE:
Battle Creek Daily Moon, Monday, March 9, 1903

FOUND DEAD IN CHAIR
A. M. Woodcock Expires Alone and Without Warning–The Funeral.
Alanson M. Woodcock was found dead in a chair at his home, 302 North Washington avenue, late Saturday afternoon, by Cajor B, Holt and Lewis B. Redner, who were looking d through the neighborhood for a house to rent. They applied at Mr. Woodcock's home, where they saw from the window his lifeless body in a rocking chair. A book upon his lap gave evidence of his occupation at the time of death. The oil from the lamp had burned out. It was found that he was about the place as usual Friday afternoon, and death must have come during Friday night or early Saturday morning. The discovery was made known to the police, who in turn apprised Coroner Merritt of the death. A coroner's jury was impaneled consisting of a John H. Williams, Charles Markley, A. O. Penfield, R. N. Percy, John Cronk, and Fay B. Green.
The jury, with the coroner and Under Sheriff Annis, adjourned to the house and viewed the remains. An adjournment was taken to Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock. The remains were removed to Caldwell's undertakIng rooms.
Chief Farrington immediately took steps to inform the relatives of the deceased, sending a message to Pearl Searl of Vassar, Mrs. A. O. Bradshaw of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Charles * Hamilton of Scots. Mr. Woodcock was a veteran of the Civil war. He served in the First Michigan cavalry. The funeral was held this afternoon at 2 o'clock from Spiritualist hall. Interment was in Oak Hill cemetery.
