GEORGE W. HYATT
Death of this Well Known and Much Esteemed Citizen.
The painful duty of chronicling the demise of our prominent citizens, who have been identified with the pioneer life of this section, is again called into requisition by the death of Mr. George W. Hyatt which occurred at his residence on Maple street, Wednesday evening, in the 61st year of bis age.
Home tour years ago last October, Mr. Hyatt experienced a stroke of paralysis, from which he never fully recovered, although the best medical attention was employed and careful nursing indulged in. During the past summer Mr. H. had been the guest of the Health Home in this city, and received the constant care of the best physicians, but without avail, and a few days previous to his death, it becoming apparent that the end was near, the patient was removed to his home to receive the care of his family and friends.
Mr. Hyatt was a native of Washington county, New York, where he was born on the 10th of June, 1822. He came to this city in 1844, beginning his business career here with the late Capt. Marsh. In 1847 he became an employee of T. B. Skinner in the dry goods business and subsequently a partner. Later still the dry goods house of Stone & Hyatt was established, the firm consisting of H. A. Stone and the deсодве 1. At the time of his attack by paralysis Mr. Hyatt was in the employ of Nichols, Shepard & Co, holding an important position in their office in this city. During the past years however, his physical condition has not allowed him an active engagement in business.
The funeral will occur from the family residence on Maple street tomorrow afternoon at half past two oclock, the Rev.
Mr. Hyatt was a gentleman of superior Intelligence, affable manners, undoubted integrity and good business qualities.
For nearly forty years he has been one of the well known residents of our city, and has commanded the respect of his entire acquaintance. His death will be deeply regretted.
