AGE 87, OF BRIGHTON
BRIGHTON — James J. Culbert, 87, of Brighton, formerly of Coldwater, passed away on Thursday, August 1, 2013 at Sanctuary of Woodland in Brighton.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, August 6, at 11:30 AM at Dutcher Funeral Home in Coldwater with Rev. Fr. Daniel Doctor officiating. Interment will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Coldwater. Visitation will be held prior to the service on Tuesday, beginning at 9:00 AM with the rosary to be recited at 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

James was born November 10, 1925 in Pittsford, MI to James and Ethel (Fish) Culbert. He married Norma A. Grohman on August 19, 1950 in Toledo, Ohio. James was a veteran of WW II serving honorably with the US Army. He had worked for the Coldwater Regional Center for 19 years and later retired from the Coldwater Water Treatment Plant after 32 years of service. He resided in Coldwater most of his life, but had lived in Brighton since 2010.

James was a member of St. Charles Borromeo Church, St. Charles 50-Plus Club, the choir and was a lay minister. He was a member of the State Retirees Organization, the Senior Center Good Time Band and a volunteer for Meals on Wheels. After moving to Brighton, James attended St. Patrick Catholic Church.

In addition to his wife Norma, James is survived by his sons Steven Culbert of Port Huron, Michael Culbert of Coldwater, his daughters Margaret (Tom) Culbert-Forsythe of Flushing, Marian Culbert of Coldwater, Annette Culbert-Himmel of Port Huron, Julie (Bill) Polak of Romulus, his grandchildren Tamora Forsythe-Brown, Katrina Forsythe, Jonathon Culbert, Renee LaVere, Rachael Culbert-Penhorwood, Nichole Himmel, Brian Himmel, Erin Himmel-Rosario, Benjamin Polak, Allen Polak, Matthew Grayson, great-grandchildren Lauren Brown, Trevor Brown, Zachary Forsythe, McKenzie Grayson, Samuel Grayson, Soren Penhorwood, Adiana Lavere.

Mr. Culbert was preceded in death by his parents, his daughter Kathy Culbert-Curtis in 2009, 2 brothers and a sister.

Memorials may be directed to The Covenant House of Michigan or to The Institute of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
