---Franklin Bender died about three o'clock Friday afternoon, at Nichols hospital in Battle Creek.
---Mr. Bender had been suffering from a cancer in the stomach for some time past and finally decided to have an operation which was performed Friday afternoon. His strength was not sufficient to undergo the strain, and he had only been off the operating table about 10 minutes when he passed away.
---Mr. Bender leaves a wife and four children, three daughters and a son, to mourn his loss.
---He was a brother-in-law of Prosecuting Attorney Hatch, and a cousin of Mrs. E.B. Hughes of this city. Mr. and Mrs. Hughes were called to Battle Creek to take charge of the remains.
---Mr. Bender was an overseer in the Grape Nut department of the Postum Cereal Co. at Battle Creek and he will be missed there as in the home circle. He was also a member of St. Albans Lodge, F. and A.M., of this city.
---The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at Grace Temple, Battle Creek. The pastor of the church, assisted by the pastor of the Congregational church of Ceresco, will conduct the services. For the present the remains will be placed in the vault of the Battle Creek cemetery.
