When she attempted to fire a bundle of papers in the furnace of her home at 11 o'clock Friday Morning Mrs. Berna N. Barton, age 32, of 195 South Jefferson avenue, sustained burns of such a serious nature that she died at 4 o'clock this morning. Mrs. Jerome Laraway, her mother who responded to her cries for help, is suffering from bad burns on her hands, sustained when she attempted to extinguish the flames which enveloped Mrs. Barton.

Mrs. Barton had gone to the basement to burn several old papers. In some way her clothing became ignited and when Mrs. Laraway, hearing her cries, ran to her help, her body was a mass of flames.

Every possible effort was made by the mother to extinguish the flames. Her screams attracted the attention of neighbors, who immediately rendered her assistance, Mrs. Barton was terribly burned from her shoulders to her feet.

Dr. H.R. Pearce was summoned medical aid proved of no avail, Mrs. Barton dying early this morning.

Besides the husband, Guy Barton, the deceased is survived by the father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Jerome Laraway, with whom she made her home, and one daughter, eight years old.

The funeral services will be held from the late home, 195 South Jefferson avenue, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. William S Potter will be the officiating minister. Burial will be made at Oak Hill cemetery and will also be private.

Friends who wish to view the remains may do so at the home, 195 South Jefferson avenue, Tuesday morning, between the hours of 9 and 12 o'clock.
