John A. French
Mr. John A. French, residing on Waterman Ave. died Sunday morning after a brief illness from the result of a cold. The deceased was a widower and had no children and lived with Mr. and Mrs. W.W. Soper, who occupied his house. Mr. French was 75-years-old at the time of his death and was born in the state of New York on January 16, 1824. He came to Coldwater in 1864 and has been here since. He leaves four step-children, Mr. George Shaw of Batavia, Mrs. H.H. Ward of Colon, William Shaw and Charlotte Baker of Litchfield. Mr. French was a quiet and unassuming man, industrious, and was always busy until he became enfeebled by old age. His last request was that the Rev. Henry Hughes should preach his funeral sermon. The funeral was held at the house Tuesday and the interment was in Oak Grove beside his wife.
