Crawford, Quimby Harmon., Monroe County, Michigan. Enlisted in Company D, Fourth Mich. Infantry, June 20, 1861, at Adrian, for 3 years, age 19. Mustered June 20, 1861. Given extra duty from November 1 to November 27, 1861 at U.S. General Hospital Washington, for a unknown infraction. Wounded, shot in the head by minie ball, while in action at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, July 2, 1863. At the battle (Gettysburg) he was wounded by a musket ball striking him just below the right temple passing along the head behind the ear, severing the ear from the head, displaying the drum of the right ear causing partial deafness of the right ear. His mental powers were deranged for two day after reception of injury. He completely unconsciousness till 10 O'clock of same day, resulting in deafness, was treated by regimental surgeon. Stephen Fishbeck of Co. K "he was delirious for some time. The wound would effect him greatly after the war. Would go by a assortment of names William Q. or Q. W. but he preferred to be called "Yankee Bill" On July 5, 1863 admitted to the Satterlee Hospital Philadelphia Detailed to Provost Guard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania January 22, 1864. Brought up on three charges on February 1, 1864, helping prisoner to escape. The charges where; 1. Neglect of Duty. 2 Aiding and abetting a prisoner to escape. 3.Condut prejudicial to good conduct.. Found Guilty sentence hard labor with#30 ball and Chain, plus play victim $41. Mustered out at expiration of term of service at Detroit, Michigan, June 30, 1864. Admitted to Old Soldiers Home, Dayton, Ohio, November 11, 1892. Born in New York.
