ELKHART - Anna R. Cocks, 91, died of natural causes at 3:34 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1st, in Elkhart General Hospital. She was born on July 18, 1918, in Moscow, MI, to the late Wilfred G. and Florence P. (Moulton) Rhodes. She was a graduate of Western State Teachers College (Western Michigan University). She had a graduate degree in Library Science from George Peabody College for Teachers, Nashville, TN. She was employed as a librarian at Penn State University, then head of a public library branch in Kalamazoo before becoming a librarian at Miles (Bayer) for 23 years. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, Special Libraries Association, Medical Library Association, and the American Library Association until her death. She was a former member of the American Chemical Society, American Association for the Advance of Science, and the American Society of Information Science. She was a charter member of the Omega Chapter of the Phi Sigma Alpha Sorority, charter member of Zonta International and had been a member of the Order of Eastern Star since 1961. She was honored with listings in several Who's Who: Who's Who of American Women, Who's Who in the Midwest, Who's Who in America, The World Who's Who of Women, and the Dictionary of International Biography. She was an editor of a publication directed to pharmaceutical librarians called "COPNIP LIST." She was active in various fund drives for the YMCA/YWCA, United Way, etc. She was active in her church, having served in various offices in various groups. She was the editor of the Church Women's Cookbook: St. John's Heavenly Recipes." She was active on the Pastoral Care Committee and the Food Pantry. Memorials may be made to the church. On June 20, 1943, in Kalamazoo, MI, she married Richard E. Cocks, who survives. Also surviving are daughters, Margaret (Michael) Row of Elkhart and Valerie Roughton of Mishawaka; four grandchildren, Andrew and Matthew (Stephannie) Row, Elizabeth Row Robinson and Hope Elaine Roughton; and three great-granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Jessica Robinson, and Destiny Row. She was preceded in death by a brother, Russell W. Rhodes of Mishawaka, and by an infant sister. Services will be held in The Episcopal Church of St. John the Evangelist today, February 4, 2010, at 10 a.m., with Father Daniel Repp officiating. Burial will take place at Oak Grove Cemetery, Coldwater, MI, at 2 p.m. today Feb. 4th. Friends called from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, February 3rd, in the Hartzler-Gutermuith-Inman Funeral Home.
