SAN FRANCISCO, CA-The Reporter learned this week of details surrounding the death of a former local young man, Kris B. Johnson, who was killed in a robbery in San Francisco.
Kris, 24, was in partnership in two restaurants called “Papa Joe’s” in that city.
According to the San Francisco police department, Kris was selling sub sandwiches in the restaurant late Friday afternoon, March 23, when a white man entered the establishment with a gun and demanded money. Kris did not resist and handed the money over. For no apparent reason, the robber then fired a shot, striking Kris in the upper left chest area. The shot was fatal. At this point, no one has been apprehended for the crime.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard R. Johnson who now reside in Green Bay, WI. Funeral services were held in Iron River on Tuesday, March 27.

Kris B. Johnson, 24, Stambaugh native, died on Friday, March 23 in San Francisco. He was a resident of Tiburon, CA.
Mr. Johnson was born July 15, 1954 in Stambaugh and had been a resident of Iron River for 12 years. He attended St. Agnes Parochial School and in 1966 moved to Rockford, IL where he attended Thomas Jefferson Jr. High and graduated in 1972 from East High School, Rockford. Mr. Johnson then attended Illinois State University, Normal, IL. In June of 1976 he moved to Tiburon, CA where he operated, in partnership, two restaurants called “PAPA JOE’S” in the city of San Francisco.
Surviving are his parents Mr. and Mrs. Bernard R. Johnson, Green Bay; a brother Kenneth Johnson, Rockford; a sister Miss Karen Ann Johnson, Rockford; and paternal grandmother Mrs. Anna P. Hale, Iron River.
The parish rosary was recited at 8 on Monday evening.
Funeral services were on Tuesday, March 27 at Duvall-Jacobs Funeral Home and at 11 a.m. at St. Agnes Church the Rev. Fr. Aloysius Hasenberg, pastor, intoned the requiem Mass.
Pallbearers were Dave Swanson, Roy Fisher, Tom Dorgan, Tom Seifert, Wolfgang Hein and Roman Mulczynski.
Interment was in Stambaugh Cemetery.
Duvall-Jacobs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
